VITA KORENEVA MEZZO-SOPRANO & COMPOSER
Mezzo-soprano Vita Koreneva’s mesmerizing stage presence and rich, distinctive voice make her the “emotional heartthrob” of the lyric stage. Moving effortlessly between comic and serious, masculine and feminine roles, she has been lauded for her “extraordinarily beautiful voice, the dramatic intensity of which can send chills down your spine”. Most recently, she made her role and house debuts in the title role of Mascagni’s Zanetto with Bel Cantanti Opera of Washington, DC and as Carmen in a concert of excerpts with Riverside Opera and the Richmond County Orchestra in New York; covered Amneris in Verismo Opera New Jersey’s production of Aidaafter winning her way to the finals in their competition. She also created the roles of Alkmene and Pythia in the world premiere of Panagiotis Karousos’ opera Olympic Flame produced by the Federation of Hellenic Societies at Lincoln Center, for which she was praised for her “amazing performance” and “deep and distinguished” voice and received the UNESCO Honorary Award. Ms. Koreneva will next return to Bel Cantanti Opera in the role of Lyubava in the US premiere of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Sadko.
Other operatic appearances include Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Giulietta (Les Contes d’Hoffman), Tebaldo (Don Carlo), and Alisa (Lucia di Lammermoor); Maddalena (Rigoletto); Charlotte (Werther) and the Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica.
Ms. Koreneva’s vocal gifts and heritage make her a natural for Russian roles such as Ioanna (The Maid of Orleans), Pauline (Pique Dame), Marfa (Khovanschina), and Olga (Eugene Onegin), but she is equally at home in repertoire such as Carmen, Delilah, Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana), Eboli (Don Carlo), Adalgisa (Norma),Venus (Tannhäuser), Leonora (La Favorita), and Giovanna Seymour (Anna Bolena).
A frequent soloist on the concert stage, Ms. Koreneva has been featured in oratorio, concerts, recitals and festivals with the United Nations Orchestra (Mozart Requiem), Washington National Cathedral (Rachmaninoff's All-Night Virgil (Solemn Vespers), Taneyev’s John of Damascus, and Gretchaninoff’s Praise the Lord; the Russian Embassy and Russian Culture Center in Washington, DC, the State Capella of St. Petersburg, Russia, Castleton Festival in Virginia, New York Session Symphony Orchestra, the Les Vielles Charrues Music Festival ‘La Fête de la Bretagne’ in New York. In 2013, she was chosen to give the world premiere of distinguished composer Pauline Viardot’s art song, “Stars”, at the Friday Morning Music Club in Virginia.
She is a 2016 winner of the International Lyra New York Competition and the 2015 winner of the William Haralson Vocal Competition in New York. In 2014, Ms. Koreneva was recognized by the Russian Cultural Center in Washington, DC for her accomplishments in strengthening Russian-American cultural relations. In 2009, she was a finalist and diploma recipient in the “Romanciada Without Borders” Art Song Competition in Russia.
A native of Moscow, Ms. Koreneva’s extensive musical training includes piano and vocal studies at the Central Music School of Moscow under the auspices of the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory. She has an MBA in Finance from American University in Washington, DC and is a former Wall Street Executive. Ms. Koreneva is a composer of songs and film scores, and is currently pursuing her Music Composition for Film, TV and Games at Berklee School of Music. She is represented by Vocal Pursuits LLC for performance and Sodabox Music for composition.
